When does a risk assessment have to be performed?
The risk assessment should not be a one-off, but should be a part of the continuous work in the field of safety.
It must be performed
- prior to starting the activities – as occasion-related initial assessment including all existing workstations

in the event of essential changes in operations, such as
- planning new workstations and workplaces,
- changing procedures,
- changing the organisation of work,
- using new substances,
- procuring new machines, devices, and equipment,
- in the event of essential maintenance measures

at regular intervals, specifically
- in the event of changes to legal provisions,
- in the event of new findings in the field of human factors science and changes to the state of the art, respectively
- in order to determine inspection periods for work equipment
- when an update proves necessary due to the results of the occupational health surveillance performed by the company doctor
- after incidents and accidents, as well as
- after the occurrence of work-related accidents, near accident, occupational diseases, or sick leave times due to work-related impairments of health
