With effect from 1st January 2021, Annex II of Regulation (EC) no. 1907/2006 gained the version of the annex of Regulation (EU) no. 2020/878 dating from 18th June 2020. All safety data sheets provided after December 31, 2022 must be provided in the format specified in Regulation (EU) 2020/878.

What the legislation requires at a theoretical level is not always easy to implement in practice. Sometimes the person responsible for compiling a data sheet lacks the required or desirable information. There can also be uncertainties surrounding the required level of detail and correct wording. In addition: The extent to which the person who compiles the safety data sheet finds them effective and relevant also depends on their educational level, point of view and reading customs.

The following "templates" for safety data sheets do not make any claim to be the only conceivable or correct version. For those compiling safety data sheets, they are to be understood as a suggestion, and should encourage the readers of safety data sheets to request supplementary information from their suppliers if required.
