BAuA activities

BAuA is actively involved in safety and health matters relating to the workplace handling of nanoparticles and has selected the following topics for its own activities:

  • a company survey on the production and use of synthetic nanoparticles in the workplace (in cooperation with the German Chemical Industry Association, (VCI e. V.));
  • development of a research strategy for nanotechnology (in cooperation with the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR));
  • development of measurement strategies for identifying nanomaterials, especially fibrous ones, in the workplace;
  • derivation of a limit value for nanoparticles;
  • guidance on the handling and use of nanomaterials in the workplace (in cooperation with VCI).

BAuA's activities aim to support the creation of information that allows risks to be evaluated according to international standards, as well as allowing the development of appropriate handling recommendations. In addition, BAuA supports nanotechnological products that have a positive impact on the health of workers and participates in a variety of national, European and international committees.

Toxic effects of various modifications of a nanoparticle following inhalation

Report 2013

This project aimed at comparing the toxic effects of the triple TiO2 UV TITAN M262, TiO2 UV TITAN M212 and TiO2 P25 coded in the European nanomaterials repository with NM-103, NM-104 and NM-105. These differ in crystal structure (rutile; rutile; 80 % anatase/20 % rutile) and surface modifications …
