The safe filling of bulk materials

Stationary filling of bulk materials in jerrycans, sacks and big bags at a filling station

The containers to be filled are positioned under the dosing device at the filling station. A balance or quantity dispenser is used to ensure the correct amount of the bulk material is dispensed. The engineering control measures looked at below minimise the amount of dust released into the workplace air. After they have been filled, the containers are sealed and set aside for collection or removed from the work area using a roller conveyor.

Filling of jerrycans with bulk materials - Engineering control - Increased extraction power

The video shows how workers’ exposure to dust is minimised if the extraction power is increased.

Filling of sacks with bulk materials – Engineering control – Installation of a baffle plate

The video shows how workers’ exposure to dust is minimised if a baffle plate is installed.

Filling of sacks with bulk materials - Engineering control - Installation of a supplementary extraction inlet

The video shows how workers’ exposure to dust is minimised if a supplementary extraction inlet is installed.

Filling of sacks with bulk materials - Engineering control – Longer deposition time

The video shows how workers’ exposure to dust is minimised if the dust in the filled sacks is allowed to deposit for longer.

Filling of big bags with bulk materials - Engineering control - Use of new big bags

The video shows how workers’ exposure to dust is minimised if new big bags are used.

Filling of big bags with bulk materials - Engineering control - Installation of glass shield

The video shows how workers’ exposure to dust is minimised if the filling station is separated from the work area with a glass shield.
