10th Symposium "Light and Health"

In April 2019, the 10th Symposium "Light and Health" was organized by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) together with the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) and the German Technical-Scientific Society for Light and Lighting (LiTG).

The conference traditionally focused on the effects of light, i. e. optical radiation in the visible spectral range, effects of ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation on the human organism and their applications. These effects of optical radiation were considered with regard to their positive effects on human health, but also their possible risks.

The contributions contained in this volume deal with various aspects of the non-visual effects of light, new findings on protection against risks from exposure to optical radiation, opportunities and risks of modern artificial light sources and the blue light hazard discussed in this context, the effects of solar UV radiation up to therapeutic and cosmetic applications of optical radiation.

The aim of the symposium was to examine scientific topics in practical terms and to promote an interdisciplinary dialogue between scientists from different disciplines, such as photo- and chronobiology, (occupational) medicine, ophthalmology, biophysics, photodermatology, psychology, ergonomics, work science, with luminaire manufacturers, lighting planners, users and actors in occupational safety.
