Socio-ethical aspects of human-robot-interaction

(in German)

The objective of the presented project was to identify socio-ethical aspects of human-robot-interaction (HRI) that are especially relevant in the industrial domain. Therefore, the project started with an extensive literature review with regard to the moral-ethical status of decisions made by robots, questions of responsibility, and the socio-ethical impact of the introduction of robots to the working environment.

Following this review, socio-ethical aspects were identified and their relevance was evaluated based on experimental HRI-studies published in scientific peer-reviewed journals. Relevant aspects were classified according to the HRI-taxonomy provided by Onnasch, Maier & Jürgensohn in 2016. Following this approach, three essential variables were identified that impact emotional aspects, the perceived responsibility, and the user acceptance in the industrial HRI: the hierarchical role of robot and human in the interaction, level of robot autonomy, and robot morphology in terms of shape, context, communication, and motion.

The results form the basis of socio-ethical design guidelines for industrial HRI.
