Psychosocial Safety Climate - Psychosocial Safety Climate: Validating the German Questionnaire

(in German)

To date, there is no German translation of an instrument to assess psychosocial safety climate (PSC) - a specific component of organizational climate regarding the policies, practices, and procedures for protecting the psychological health and safety of workers. This is the case even though such an instrument would be useful for screening in the context of psychosocial risk assessment. The current study, with N = 1,762 employees drawn from 16 organizations, aimed at validating such a German version, based on a qualitative pretest. Considering the multilevel nature of the data, confirmatory factor analyses show a two-factor structure for "senior management" vs. "organization as a whole". Regression analyses confirm the expected associations with further psychosocial working conditions as well as work- and health-related outcomes such as burnout and job satisfaction. Hence, a PSC tool for application in research and field settings in the German-speaking world is now available.
