Measurement of nanoscale and microscale fibrous materials at workplaces (part 2)
(in German)
A first step has been taken towards the development of a new method for measuring the exposure to nano- and microscale fibrous materials. In a first convention, the nanoscale fibre diameter range down to 0.02 μm was considered separately. In the already published first part of this paper, the criteria for sampling are presented along with the parameters of scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis with high-resolution instruments. The present second part describes the basic requirements for SEM analysis and the strategy for counting criteria. Furthermore, it also discusses the findings of a first laboratory comparison in which fibre number concentrations of airborne carbon nanotubes (CNT) were determined in an exposure chamber. The new proposal for the new measuring method now has to prove itself in practice. To this end, it is being checked in workplace measurements for its serviceability and universal applicability.
