The impact of using exoskeletons on occupational safety and health

This discussion paper examines the role exoskeletons may play in the working environment of the future and the impact their use may have on workers' safety and health. It explores the role exoskeletons could play in preventing musculoskeletal disorders while addressing the potential risks that could arise from their application in various fields.

The paper acknowledges the uncertainty surrounding their long-term effects on health and the difficulties in creating a uniform certification, and points to the need for more comprehensive studies. Consideration of the hierarchy of prevention when designing future workplaces, rather than relying on exoskeletons to create ergonomic work environments, is also discussed.
