Prof. Anita Tisch BAuA’s New Vice President from 1 July 2024

The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA) has been successful in selecting a new vice president, appointing Prof. Anita Tisch at the conclusion of a rigorous academic process conducted by a special recruitment committee.

  • Date 2024-06-10

Prof. Tisch will become BAuA’s vice president on 1 July. Thanks to this appointment, BAuA’s leadership is gaining an outstanding researcher and manager with extensive experience of public-sector science.

Prof. Tisch has worked at BAuA since 1 November 2016, initially as head of the Working Time and Flexibilisation Unit and since 1 June 2022 as head of the Changing World of Work Division. In both these roles, she has made major contributions to the Federal Institute’s specialised research into topics significant for occupational safety and health at a time when the world of work is being transformed. Prof. Tisch previously worked as a researcher and project leader at the Institute for Employment Research (Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung, IAB) in Nuremberg.

Dr Rüdiger Pipke, who has been acting vice president until now, is retiring, but will continue to serve as the third member of BAuA’s leadership trio until the end of 2024. He will collaborate closely with its president and vice president to drive ahead interdisciplinary projects and promote effective transfers of expertise.

A recruitment committee was set up to identify the right candidate for this leadership position. The conduct of the search process by the recruitment committee, which consisted of prominent figures from the scientific community, employers’ organisations, and trade unions, as well as representatives from the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales, BMAS) and BAuA, was assessed extremely positively by all concerned. The approach taken made it possible to meet high quality criteria and ensure compliance with the standards set for Germany’s federal research institutions when making senior leadership appointments.
