Preparation of informative material on the subject of daylight use and sun protection measures at office workstations

  • Project number: F 2122
  • Institution: ERGONOMIC - Institut für Arbeits- und Sozialforschung - Forschungsgesellschaft mbH
  • Status: Completed Project

Description:

In offices one often finds daylight-oriented VDU workstations. Under the Workplaces Ordinance 2004 on the one hand such workstations must receive sufficient daylight and, on the other, excessive direct sunlight must be avoided. Office buildings frequently have a high proportion of windows and glazed areas, which can give rise to dazzle effects for employees working there. The actual visual task may actually be impaired by this, or it may not be possible at all. The aim of the project is to draw up, on the basis of the state of science and technology, practicable instructions for action in the form of a quarto brochure concerning the use of daylight to illuminate office workstations as well as solutions to be applied to provide protection from the sun. These instructions will describe the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods, systems or technologies, the aim being to provide in practice a decision-making aid in the ergonomic design of office workstations with respect to daylight use and the optimization of sun protection measures.
