Methods to comply with action and limit values to support the German ordinance transposing the EU-Directive 2003/10/EC Noise into national law

  • Project number: F 1898
  • Institution: Müller-BBM GmbH
  • Status: Completed Project

Description:

The primary aim of this project is to give suggestions on how to deal with the uncertainty of noise measurements when meeting the obligations of the new German ordinance (LärmVibrationsArbSchV) transposing the EU-Directive 2003/10/EC Noise into national law. Several action levels for the daily noise exposure level as well as for the peak sound presure are given in the regulation. But there is no guidance how to consider the uncertainty when distinguishing if an action level is reached or exceeded. Additionally, the EU-Directive and the German ordinance give an exposure limit taking into account the effect of hearing protection. But the individual attenuation of hearing protection in reality is quite uncertain and measurements in the ear canal under the hearing protection are no practicable option. The results shall be used to give a guidance how to meet the obligations of the ordinance in practise.
