Study on Mental Health at Work (S-MGA)

The Study on Mental Health at Work (S-MGA) examines the relationship between working conditions, mental health, and physical functioning. It is designed as a panel study and conducted by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) in cooperation with the Institute for Employment Research (IAB). The population consists of employed persons who are subject to social insurance contributions and born between 1951 and 1980. The first survey wave took place in 2011/2012, followed by a further wave in 2017.

FDZ-BAuA makes a scientific use file available that integrates the data of wave 1 and wave 2 as a panel dataset. The dataset contains data on the following subject areas:

  • Working and employment conditions
  • Positive and negative indicators of mental health
  • Work ability and functioning
  • Socio-demographic information on the respondents

For more detailed information on the sample and the content of the Study on Mental Health at Work (S-MGA), please see the introductory article, data documentation, and methodological reports on this page.
