Join BAuA and help us shape the future of work
Welcome to the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA)! We offer diverse, interesting jobs and outstanding working conditions, giving you opportunities to contribute to our success while pursuing your own professional and personal development. This page explains who we are, what we stand for, and why BAuA is the ideal place for you to further your career.
Who we are
BAuA is a federal departmental research institution funded and overseen by the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales, BMAS). About 750 highly committed staff are employed across our three sites in Dortmund, Berlin, and Dresden, working at the point where research, policymaking, and practice intersect, as well as performing a range of statutory functions. We systematically observe and record changes and trends in the world of work and analyse their consequences for occupational safety and health. Our workforce includes professionals from a wide spectrum of different backgrounds in the social and natural sciences, medicine, health studies, engineering, and communication science, not to mention legal officers, technical experts, and skilled administrators, allowing us to contribute significantly to occupational safety and health in Germany.
Many ways - one mission

What we offer: outstanding working conditions for our academic and non-academic staff
Safe, healthy work is more than just a research topic as far as we are concerned. We also practise what we preach every working day. With a comprehensive workplace health management system, our employees’ health is a top priority. A secure public-sector job, the flexibility to decide where and when you do your work, a supplementary pension scheme, bonuses, and individualised personnel development plans are all standard at BAuA. Our staff have access to modern equipment, whether they are working at one of our offices, in our laboratories, or from home. They are able to buy subsidised season tickets for public transport and travel conveniently to work, can rely on the commitment to sustainability demonstrated by our environmental management system, are well led, and enjoy an excellent work-life balance.
