The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA)
The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin, BAuA) is a federal departmental research institution dedicated to safety and health at work and human-centred work design. At its three sites in Dortmund, Berlin, and Dresden, nearly 750 staff work at the intersection between science, policymaking, and practice. They conduct research and development projects, provide policy advice, perform statutory and official functions, and transfer knowledge into workplace practice.

BAuA is advised on fundamental matters and quality assurance issues by three bodies concerned with different aspects of its operations.
Board of Trustees (Curatorium)
The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is advised on fundamental matters and its long-term professional and scientific strategy by its Board of Trustees (Kuratorium). This body consists of sixteen members representing employers, the trade unions, and institutions active in BAuA’s area of responsibility. Its members are appointed by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales, BMAS) for a term of four years and work in a voluntary capacity.
