Sedentary behaviour: health risks and solutions

Epidemiological research shows that sedentary behaviour (sitting too much) is associated with health risks. This presentation will discuss the current evidence around the health risks of sedentary behaviour and the interaction with physical activity. Furthermore, solutions around reducing sedentary behaviour with a specific focus on the occupational setting will be discussed.
Hidde van der Ploeg is Associate Professor at the Department of Public and Occupational Health of the VU University Medical Centre in Amsterdam. His main research expertise is in physical activity and sedentary behaviours in relation to public and occupational health. He focusses on 1) physical activity and sedentary behaviour interventions in health care and workplace settings, 2) the epidemiology of physical activity and sedentary behaviour, 3) the measurement and surveillance of physical activity and sedentary behaviours.
